We are happy to announce the birth of our son, Kye Aaron Nystrom. He came quite fast (5 hours total of laboring and pushing), making his first appearance at 4:39pm on Saturday, December 20th. Despite my previous c-section, it was a normal vaginal delivery with no epidural (not by choice this time...he just came before they were able to get it put in). He weighed 7 pounds and was 20 inches long. We are home already and are very excited to be able to sleep in our own bed tonight. Kye has spent most of his first 28 hours of life sleeping, which we really hope he plans to continue!

It's been almost 5 months since my last update, so my guilt has finally motivated me enough to get another one written. I got so used to writing about our moving and traveling adventures that it is difficult to just write about everyday stuff now that residency is keeping us in one place! Back in July, Paul was fortunate enough to only have to work one shift over 4th of July weekend. We decided to go up to my parent's place on Mille Lacs Lake (where I spent my summers growing up). It was little surreal being able to do the things with my own kids that I did as a kid on the same lake that I did them (fishing, tubing & skiing, playing on the lake shore, etc). And there is nothing that makes me still feel young more than doing active things that require some physical skill (such as water skiing). Despite having planned to have four kids since I got married, shortly before Jolie was born I had some major doubts about whether I would be able to stay home with four kids and not lose my sanity.  Well, despite yesterday's post I am happy to report that I am doing it.  Although our house is much louder, there are more dishes in the sink, and our laundry piles seem to be bigger every day, I can honestly say that life is good.  Crazy, but good.  Although four kids means four times the arguments, discipline, and tears, it also means four times the fun, laughter, and love!  Since the day we decided to start trying to have kids, our guiding verse has been Psalm 127:3-5, "Don't you see that children are God's best gift, the fruit of the womb, his generous legacy? Like a warrior's fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth.  Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children!" I obviously have my ...

South-Eastern US Road Trip: 12/18/20

 Day: 7 South Carolina, Georgia, Florida This morning we went to the beach. There was a pier further down the beach that we walked under. On the way, we found lots of shells and washed-up sea urchins. It was very cold, and not a swimming sort of day. We then drove to Charleston. We had booked a tour of Fort Sumter and while waiting we played at a park nearby. At the appointed time, we arrived at the ferry and boarded. A volunteer asked us if we wanted to be Junior Rangers and we all said yes as we had done this in the past at other national parks and monuments. From the ferry, we saw the Navy Destroyer USS Laffey and Aircraft Carrier USS Yorktown. The Yorktown was bigger than the Ark we had seen earlier! The harbor has a pod of 105 dolphins and we saw a few swimming in front of the boat and around the harbor. The volunteer talked about the history of the harbor and pointed out a few other smaller forts. Once we got to Fort Sumter, we listen to a ranger talk, were showed fingerprint...
