South-Western US Road Trip: 12/18/21

Day 2
Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico
After packing up, we drove towards Topeka and stopped at a dam and some outdoor gardens. We saw several Osage orange trees that have really weird-looking fruit and played at a park for a short time. Next, we stopped at the Kansas museum of military history. It wasn't quite what we expected (it was pretty much a big garage), but still interesting. Then we stopped at another park, before continuing on to the Keeper of the Plains statue. It is located at the river confluence of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas rivers. There were several friendly geese along the river near the parking lot, and several kinds of geese, ducks, and other waterfowl were all over the place. We walked across some bridges to the statue and looked at some exhibits on the culture and history. After leaving the Keeper of the Plains, we drove all the way to a hotel in Las Vegas, New Mexico, only briefly stopping near the Texas border.
