South-Western US Road Trip: 12/25/21

Day 9

California

Today was spent seeing things we hadn’t when we lived here. We started by walking across a cool suspension bridge over a gulch. Then we went to see something called the mushroom house on Black’s Beach. Check out this link to read the story behind the mushroom house. The beach was strewn with kelp, and there were patches of mud washed down the cliffs from the recent rain. We also caught a couple glimpses of a seal playing in the waves. After a steep walk back up to our car, we drove to La Jolla Beach and saw many more seals lounging in a cove. We continued walking along the ocean and found many beautiful picture locations. Then we spent some time playing on a rock outcropping while trying not to get too wet (and not succeeding). Next, we went to a playground to eat lunch and kill some time. It had a cool two-person swing and swings that went in a circle. After playing and finishing our food, we drove to Sunset Cliffs to watch the sunset and see the beautiful view. On the drive back to our lodging after the sun went down, we stopped at a giant Christmas tree and saw lots of Christmas lights. Once we arrived, we had more Knefla soup and happy birthday Jesus cake (angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream), then went in the hot tub again, before going to bed.
